The lot (#54V) for the Virtual Model Home at The Cliffs in Aboite was chosen during the planning stages of the subdivision, before any construction to install the streets had taken place. Other lots were split and combined to make this outstanding setting. The lot was chosen not only for the beauty of the lot location, but specifically for its orientation to the setting sun. As the picture of the back side (living side) of the house shows, it is a wall of windows that allows a tremendous amount of sunlight to flood into the house. However, none of this light is direct sunlight. It is all indirect sunlight. The wall of windows is set at a one degree angle off from the path of the sun on the summer solstice at sunset. So on the longest day of the year, and at sunset, which provides the most north to south path of the sun, no direct sunlight will shine into the wall of windows.
This will benefit the home by flooding the house with non-glare producing sunlight. The sunlight will be more evenly distributed throughout the house providing better TV viewing, computer use and office work environment. Another benefit of avoiding direct sunlight is the lack of swing demands on the heat and cooling system. Also the damaging effect of direct sunlight on fabrics and the interior of the house is eliminated.
The choice of this particular lot with its orientation to the sun was a prime consideration for the location of the Villaminium Virtual Model Home at The Cliffs in Aboite. The house takes full advantage of being totally washed in indirect sunlight without the negative effects of direct sunlight.
